Kim Hyun-joong’s Farm Investment Plummets: “Bought for 200M Won, Now Worth Just 30M”

On the February 28 episode of tvN’s “Free Doctor,” Kim Hyun-joong was featured as a rookie farmer, showcasing his life away from the entertainment industry.
Kim Hyun-joong previously made headlines due to legal disputes with his ex-girlfriend, who accused him of assault and later gave birth to his child. He was acquitted of the assault charges, and paternity tests confirmed him as the father. Additionally, he was later caught for drunk driving.

In 2022, Kim Hyun-joong married a woman of the same age and now has two sons. Since then, he has been sharing his farming life on YouTube. Kim Hyun-joong is currently farming on a 200-pyeong (approximately 660 square meters) plot of land he owns in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province.
Back in 2007, he invested in multiple plots of land during the Saemangeum reclamation project, hoping for a profit. However, the project faced setbacks, and he eventually sold the land at a loss of 400 million won.
The farmland in Icheon remained unsold, forcing him to keep it for 10 years. Originally purchased for 200 million won, its value plummeted to just 30 million won over the years. Since the land was designated for agricultural use, he had no choice but to farm on it.

Though he started farming unexpectedly, Kim Hyun-joong discovered a natural aptitude for it. His YouTube videos documenting his farming journey gained popularity, amassing 1.21 million subscribers.
To work within a shorter cultivation cycle, Kim Hyun-joong chose to grow corn. He sought advice from an experienced village head but faced setbacks, including a disastrous incident where all his corn crops collapsed. Despite the challenges, he built strong ties with the village community. In September 2023, he even used his connections to invite trot singer Shin In-sun to perform at a local festival.
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun-joong continues his career abroad. After completing a nine-country Latin American tour in 2023, he held overseas dance concerts last year and also starred in a Korea-Japan joint drama.
